Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined by the AQF as an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual’s relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit.
So what does this mean? RPL allows you to receive recognition for skills you have gained via formal, informal or non-formal learning (including credit transfers) or previous working experience including volunteer work. By receiving recognition for units of study you can reduce the amount of time you study and in most instances reduce the cost of your course.
RPL is available to all enrolled AVT students who have had adequate prior learning that relates to the topics covered in their chosen qualification. Applications must be completed and received prior to the commencement of the course. Please see the fees schedule for associated charges.
The prior learning may be in the form of previous studies or completed qualifications (including superseded qualifications), on the job experience or volunteer work.
To ensure that the skills and knowledge being assessed through the RPL process meet currency requirements, applicants for RPL will need to be currently actively working or have been actively working within the very recent past in the animal care and veterinary industry.
We encourage you to visit training.gov.au to review the competency requirements for each unit in your qualification. If you feel you may be eligible for RPL assessment including credit transfers, please contact us.
Fees apply for RPL assessment including credit transfer applications. Please see our student policies page here for more details.
