WA Veterinary Nurses

Registration and Duties

Information for Western Australian Veterinary Nurses and Students

Are you a Western Australian based Vet Nurse or Student?

In WA only, there is a legal requirement for nurses who are working in a veterinary practice to be registered with the Vet Practice Board (WA). Vet Nursing Students no longer need to register with the Vet Practice Board. A list of duties that are allowed to be performed by a Vet Nursing Student under veterinary supervision is shown below.

The veterinarian who is providing the supervision needs to be approved by Applied Vocational Training, in writing, prior to performing the duties listed below.

It should be noted that people performing acts listed below are acting illegally if AVT does not have written consent from the supervising veterinarian.

You can download our AVT Supervising Veterinary Authorisation Form (to be signed by the veterinarian and returned to AVT by the student), using the link below.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where our campus is based, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and we commit to walking alongside our indigenous brothers and sisters. We extend that respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in our community.
