Work Placement Details
Information for students studying via our Blended Learning option
We envisage that your practical work placement will commence within the first 4-6 weeks of your course start date. To complete the hours required within 1.5 years you will need to attend a veterinary practice for approximately 1 day per week for the duration of your course.

As part of your training, you will be required to gain vital practical skills via participating in approximately 500 hours of work placement (or employment) in a veterinary hospital.

This question relates to online eLearning students. If you are an on-campus full-time student please select the N/A option.

The normal duration of study for this course is 2 years.
For a variety of reasons, students occasionally elect to study our E Learning course on a full time basis. For example, students wishing to apply for AUSTUDY/ABSTUDY/Youth Allowance** etc are only considered by Department of Human Services if studying on a full time basis. This would mean you would need to complete the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 1 year (in excess of 20 hours per week) and not the allocated 2 years.

It is important that we know this in advance as your course schedule and payment plan option will be based on your intended duration of study.
Careful consideration should be given to the level of commitment and time that would be required should you elect to complete this course on a full time basis (12 months). In order to complete the qualification in 12 months, you would need to be available to attend a work place 2 days a week and be able to dedicate another 2-3 days a week to study.

Workplace Training Requirements*
Any work placement or practical workplace training undertaken as part of an AVT qualification must be approved by an AVT representative prior to commencing any logged hours. This agreement relates to all approved practical work placements undertaken as part of an enrolled qualification.
- While I am completing my work placement at a workplace, I will be exposed to information relating to the business, its staff, clients and patients (animals) in care that is strictly confidential. I acknowledge I will, during and after the completion of my course with AVT, agree to not use or disclose confidential information about the business, staff, clients or patients (animals) or those mentioned during the course of my training. I agree to only use photographs, videos taken and information learned from the workplace for the purposes of completing AVT assessments.
- I understand that to fulfil the requirements of this course I am required to supply sufficient evidence (videos, photographs and workplace documentation) of the required skills and knowledge I have gained for assessment, as outlined in the Practical Task Workbook. This may require approximately 500 hours of workplace training in a veterinary practice to successfully complete all tasks. I agree to abide by the policies and procedures of any workplace I am assigned to and to conduct myself in a suitably professional manner, to the expected standards of the workplace(s). I agree to follow the instructions and guidance provided by the workplace supervisor(s) at all times. I authorise AVT to contact my workplace supervisor at any time to discuss my performance and progress.
Work Health and Safety*
During the completion of my work placement with AVT, I understand the importance of work health and safety issues that might arise during an approved practical work placement. I will take all due care and follow the instructions, procedures and protocols provided by AVT and my approved work placement and supervisor/s.
- I will report any hazardous conditions to the work placement and a representative of AVT. If I sustain a work placement related injury or illness, I will report it to my workplace supervisor and a representative of AVT and seek treatment promptly.
Misconduct*
- I understand that if I do not reasonably satisfy the requirements and expectations of the workplace in which I am completing my work placement and I am asked to leave as a result of any misconduct, that this may jeopardise my place in the enrolled course and AVT reserves the right to terminate my enrolment.
Payment Declaration*
- I authorise Applied Vocational Training Pty Ltd to debit funds for the monthly payments for this enrolment from the card provided as part of this enrolment form.
