Study pathways for high school students wishing to work with animals
If you’re a high school student dreaming of a career working with animals, AVT offers flexible training pathways designed to help you get started.
Our nationally recognised ACM20121 Certificate II in Animal Care is available through our VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) program, giving students the opportunity to begin building practical skills while still at school.
Students can choose the study option that best suits their learning style and school arrangements:

- VETDSS Online (Available Australia-wide) – Complete flexible online learning alongside your school commitments and gain practical experience through a student-organised animal care work placement in your local area.
- VETDSS Face-to-face (Perth Practical Pathway) – Complete flexible online learning alongside your school commitments while attending Landsdale Farm one day per week for practical training, workplace experience and assessment.
Both pathways lead to the same nationally recognised qualification and are designed to prepare students for further study or entry-level employment within the animal care industry.
Whether you’re interested in veterinary nursing, animal welfare, wildlife, dog training or another animal-related career, the Certificate II in Animal Care is a great first step.
