Veterinary Practice Work Experience program

 Applied Vocational Training is the leading training organization for Veterinary Nursing Training in Western Australia, working with over 70 Veterinary Practices to train and arrange employment for Veterinary Nurses. We believe it is most important for people considering entering the Veterinary Industry to have some exposure to practice life before making a final decision about training to become a Vet Nurse (or a Vet)

 Our work experience program is designed to assist people to gain entry to a Veterinary Practice for work experience. Many practices will not accept people for work experience who walk in off the street as they may not be properly prepared for exposure to Veterinary Practice and will not have the appropriate insurance.

 On completion of our program you can be awarded a “certificate of completion” that will complement your C.V. and may assist you with entry into Veterinary Nursing training. We suggest that you complete at least 30 hours in a practice.

 The program requires you to watch a DVD about working in practice and study a workbook. Before going to practice you are required to complete an assignment based on this workbook.

 To complete the program you need to do the following:  

1.	View our DVD “An introduction to Veterinary Nursing”	This will be provided to you on enrolment This DVD takes less than 10 minutes to view.
2.	Read and work through our “Work Experience Manual”	This will be provided to you on enrolment You must complete and send in an  assignment based on this manual (and DVD) before going to practice. Most students will complete this manual and assignment within 4 hours.
3.	Have liability and accident insurance	This will be arranged for you on enrolment.
4.	Attend a Veterinary Practice for 30 hrs	On enrolment, we will arrange this for you at a practice that is convenient to attend. You may have already arranged a practice yourself.
Should you then wish to obtain the program completion certificate, you need to:
5.	Provide us with a record of your attendance	This will be in your “Work Experience Manual”
6.	Complete and send to us a  short assignment completed during your stay at the practice	This will be in your “Work Experience Manual”

This program aims to ensure you are adequately prepared to go into a Veterinary Practice and have knowledge on aspects of practice operations and your own safety in the workplace. It includes topics such as:

• Confidentiality.
• Practice staff.
• Layout of a Veterinary Clinic.
• Security and safety of animals.
• Basic animal handling.
• Euthanasia of Animals.
• Your health and safety in practice.

Costs of the Program

 The total cost of this program is $350 and includes the DVD, workbook and insurance. $150 of this amount is paid by us to the practice that supports your work experience.

To enrol in this program you need to complete an application form and send to us. You can call us and we will send you an application form or you can download one by clicking on the link below.  Once we have received this form we will send the DVD and manual to you and begin to make arrangements for your work experience.
