Correspondence Course

This program is designed for students not living in Perth. Some applicants will already be employed in a practice, others who are not employed will need to attend as a volunteer to gain work experience during their course.

We have students form Western Australia, interstate and many from overseas. Students have graduated from as far as away as Ireland, Japan, Singapore and South Africa. The correspondence program operates in a similar way to the part time program, except that you do not attend classes and all of your study guides are sent to you by mail (only for Australian students) or downloaded via the internet (Australian and Overseas students). You work on these study guides using your textbooks and send or email your work in for assessment. Support is offered to you via the telephone, email or skype. You can start at any time of the year, our office is open during both the school terms and most holidays.

Your practical training is done in a Veterinary Practice in your locality. You will need to attend a practice for at least 300 hours to meet our requirements. For those employed in practice, this will usually be done as part of your normal work. For those not employed, then the practice you have an arrangement with will need to commit to at least this amount of experience. Places are offered to correspondence students based on the availability of a Veterinary Practice to support your training. If not already employed in a practice, you are required to locate a practice willing to support you. For prospective students we have a package we send you which may assist you in finding a practice to support your studies. You can apply for this program at any time of the year and start at any time.

Correspondence students are welcome to attend part time classes at any time if they are in Perth and are free to join the part time program should they want more contact with a tutor. If at all possible, we like our correspondence students to attend the workshops we hold in Perth. These one day workshops (there are 8 in total) are held over a one week period several times throughout the year. It is possible for students to complete these workshops by coming to Perth for 2 one week periods during their course. For students who cannot attend these workshops (such as students living interstate or overseas), we may be arrange equivalent practical training close to the area where you live in a veterinary practice. This will be in addition to your normal practical sessions at a veterinary hospital.

You need to have the assistance of a mentor if you choose to study by correspondence. This is a person who will support your studies and assist in supervising your assessments. This could be a family member or friend that is prepared to work with us in your training. This person must not be studying in our course and be over 18 yrs.

Overseas students must have internet access to be able to download study guides and submit and receive assessments. Books can be purchased from Amazon.com

Please note that we do not offer this course to students living in Perth due to our Veterinary training placements being used by our full time students.
