In selecting students for our programs, our main consideration is their aptitude for working in this field and we do not have strict rules relating to past experience or studies. If you are really interested in becoming a Veterinary Nurse we are keen to provide that opportunity for you.

In selecting students we consider three criteria:

  • Your ability to study at this level: We look for evidence of ability to study at the Certificate IV level. This may be based on your completion of school or other studies. We do not apply strict rules on what schooling you need to have completed and all students can present evidence of their ability.  For students that do not have evidence of previous studies we have our own aptitude assessments that may allow you to demonstrate your ability. These assessments are designed to assess your language, literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Exposure to Animal Care: We are looking for students with a background involving animals. This may be from experience in farming, pets and other animal related activities. In particular we believe that our students should have had some exposure to a Veterinary Practice. It is important that students have a real expectation of the type of work that they will be doing. Many students have had some work experience or close contact with the Veterinary Industry. If you have had no contact with the Veterinary Industry, you should still submit an application. In these cases we usually request that you spend a week or so in a practice. We have an arrangement with many practices that are happy to offer this experience to prospective students and we have a structured program in place to prepare you for the work experience. If you are outside of Western Australia we can contact a practice you nominate and request they participate in this program. Fees do apply for this work experience program

  • Your likelihood of gaining employment: We are looking for students with the commitment and personality that would likely support working in the industry.

We respond to every application received and are happy to discuss options with a student prior to submitting an application if required. Just give us a call.

Note for students applying for our full time course. We usually have more applicants than places available, so if you are interested in this course, then get in an application as soon as practical so we have plenty of time to deal with any work experience matters
